How to style the same piece of clothing for 24 h

This week: Women’s Black Dress

Hiya Babes!

As I was talking to my friend Melanie a few weeks ago, my attention took a real fantasy turn. She was saying to me that she and I have some very different styles, which is so real. She is simple; she is less out there as I am. I am so forward because I take risks and this is because I love to play with clothes, colours, and it is totally okay like what you like. I am not here to talk about style; I am here to talk about fashion, about curves, forms, and to give advice that can be okay for somebody straightforward like me, or somebody with a more laid-back style like my dear friend. Fashion has so many different sides, and it is so difficult to find common ground about the style you and your girlfriends would go for.

I understood in all these years while playing with different clothing pieces, is that there are definitively two types of clothing: we can call them Basic and Statement pieces.

Statement pieces are the pieces in your outfit that generally are a little more different, peculiar, or bright and draw the most attention. It can be whatever piece of clothing, but it has to be different, at least a little from the rest of the outfit, and it depends on your style what you choose to draw attention to (also on your body type, as we said in a previous article).

Basic pieces, instead, are clothes that more or less everyone has and used as a simple but enchanting rotating pin for an outfit, day and night. Usually, basic pieces have no patterns, writings, or a crazy change of dimension on them. Plain and simple, and this is just because it is on you to style it as you want. You will probably have in your wardrobe for years these pieces of clothing, use on so many occasions, and never feel like throwing them away.

In today’s article, I will start to focus on one of women’s most common basic piece: the black dress. (Do not worry boys, I will provide some advice for you too).

I guess that at least 90% of you girls reading this have a black dress in your closet. It can be really short, or long, bodycon or with an A-line skirt, with or without sleeves, we almost all have one. The black dress is a basic piece, and of course, the style of yours does not matter, because you are the one who is going to create a unique outfit, even if I am going to give you advice on you to style it.

Have you ever thought about changing the other pieces of clothing around a basic piece, the outfit changes completely?

Well, my bits today will be about how to style a black dress in 24 h, in the daylight, and during the night-time.

Daytime

With your black dress, you want to add:

- A jeans jacket ( or shirt ) knotted around your waist

- Some necklaces around your neck

- Earrings (if you usually wear them and in balance with the necklaces)

- Your favorite pair of sneakers

- Your favorite shoulder bag

In my photo, the dress is an old one-shoulder dress from Alcott, the earrings I guess are from Stradivarius, and my necklaces are from Shein. My light washed jeans jacket was my dad's, and it is from the brand Rifle, and I customized it years ago. My sneakers are white Skechers, and finally, my shoulder bag is from Shein, my favourite shop online.

Night-time:

With your black dress, you want to add:

- A colourful ( or not) Blazer

- A belt around your waist to also close your blazer and accentuate your waist.

- Some heels

- A clutch

In my photo, the dress is the same, my blazer is from Stradivarius, and my belt, heels, and clutch are all from Shein (as you notice, I took off my shoulder bag’s rope from the other look).

Because I see you reading, if you arrive at this point, I have a challenge for you: put together your outfit with these elements (you can choose between daytime and night-time) and post it on your story on Instagram tagging @allbitsaniya. I make sure I will repost it.

Till next time,

Aniya
